Programs and Activities of the American Legion Auxiliary
In the Spirit of Good Will
The American Legion Auxiliary is women and men of all ages and from all walks of life, who join together in the community of giving. No matter how an Auxiliary members chooses to contribute, she/he can help fill a need and address one of countless social concerns through our many programs shown below.
Children & YouthThrough activities like Star Spangled Kids, Josh Dog, and reading the book titled Klinger, to delivering Hero Packs, Pocket Constitution, holiday children parties, and Trick or Trunks, the American Legion Auxiliary protects, cares for, and supports children and youth of our communities across New Mexico.
Junior ActivitiesTeaching members under the age of 18 how to be active in all things American Legion Auxiliary through inspiring activities. Contact your local unit to see how your junior member can become evolved. Molding the future!
Poppy"In Flanders field the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row" marking the place of veterans who gave all for our freedom. To remember those lost, we wear our poppies with pride and you can too.
To honor those lost, the American Legion Auxiliary holds an annual Poppy Poster Contest and Miss Poppy Contest. We also collect donation funds that support the rehabilitation of New Mexican Veterans.
Veterans Affairs & RehabilitationComing home may be the end of one journey for many veterans but it can also the beginning of a new journey of transitioning to a “new normal.” Helping them get there is at the core of the purpose and service of the American Legion Auxiliary. Members are passionate about providing care and comfort to our heroic U.S. service members who are so highly deserving of everything we can possibly do for them. Will you be there too?
Auxiliary Emergency FundMembers Helping Members
AEF provides temporary financial assistance to members during times of financial crises or weather-related emergencies and natural disasters. Just another way the American Legion Auxiliary takes care of our members. You can be one too!

Girls StateEducating the young women of New Mexico in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of true American citizenship by providing an amazing week of learning. High School Juniors experience the political process through electing officials, passing bills, and actively running their own government on all levels. Team Nats or Team Feds?
Community ServiceWorking within our communities across New Mexico to provide stand downs for homeless vets, distributing blessing bags, honoring emergency respondents, and many other service projects. You can make a difference too!
LegislativeBecoming active in the issues important to our Veterans. If political issues are an interest of yours, this is the place for you. Your voice matters, share it with the world.
Veteran Affairs & Veteran ServicesThe VA Hospital in Albuquerque is always in need of volunteers to help with the Avenue of Flags, Hospital Occupations and Careers Programs, Summer Youth Program, Coffee Program, Halloween Party, Christmas Gift Distribution, Veteran's Clothes Closet, Adopt A Holiday, National Salute to Veterans Patients, Creative Arts Festival, Volunteer for a Veteran, and the Buddy Basket Program. ALA FoundationThis American Legion Auxiliary Foundation supports both the Mission Endowment Fund and the Veteran Project Fund. The Mission Endowment Fund is used to support American Legion Auxiliary programs while the Veteran Project Fund supports emergent special needs of Veteran projects and the Veterans Creative Arts Festivals.
AmericanismThe Auxiliary creates opportunities that all Americans can do to show our respect and set positive examples of living as grateful, patriotic citizens. From the Americanism Essay Contest to teaching flag etiquette, Americanism has patriotic
volunteer opportunities for everyone. EducationThrough classroom activities, literacy programs, scholarship promotion, school supply donation and support of education beyond high school the American Legion Auxiliary supports New Mexico's children. Will you help?
National SecurityMaintaining and promoting a strong national defense by supporting service members and their families through Family Readiness Groups, Blue Star and Gold Star mothers, Yellow Ribbon Programs, Welcome Home Events, Holiday Mail for Heroes, and many other ways. We would be happy to have your help.
Past Presidents ParleyAny member can participate in helping to raise funds for the Nurses Scholarship. Every year a $500.00 scholarship is given to a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a $300.00 scholarship to a non member. If you are a nursing student, stop by your local unit to apply.
MusicDo you like to sing? Do you like to listen to tunes? In our quest to celebrate the land of the free and the home of the brave, music binds us together. We are always open to new ideas and new music, stop by your local unit to join the fun.
Fort Bayard Veteran HomeThe American Legion Auxiliary provide the residents at the Fort Bayard Veterans Home with seasonal monthly cook-outs, holiday gatherings, fun activities with the residents, family assistance as needed, and anything else the residents require. Volunteers and donations are always needed. Special requests at this time: Ipod shuffle (recycled or new), music for the courtyard, and a canopy for sun protection. If you are interested in helping out or donating, contact your local unit.
